Before we get to the clues, we do have to acknowledge the sad and very untimely passing of Australian actor, Heath Ledger at just 28 years of age. It was a huge shock to most people and the loss of someone who still had a lot of potential. May he rest in peace.

Here are the answers to the two movies from Monday, 21st January, 2008:

Answer to movie number one:

The first movie for Monday was from 1995 and tells of a small town in the eastern United States which is the centre of a media whirlwind involving a lovely local television personality and murder most foul. The personality is the brightly chatty narrator of her own bizarre story. Hell-bent on conquering the world of television, she’s prepared to bump off anyone who stands in her way. That’s too bad for her husband - a small town tavern keeper who saw his best days back in high school.

This movie was "To Die For", directed by Gus Van Zant and starring Nicole Kidman, Matt Dillon and Joaquin Phoenix. The script was written by Buck Henry and was based on the novel by Joyce Maynard.

Answer to movie number two:

The second movie for Monday was from 1965 and tells of a time in the early 1940s and a dance at an officer’s club. A woman is there with her husband who is aboard one of the vessels in the area. She’s a party girl, however, and leaves with another officer. They go to the beach where she skinny dips. The commander of a battle wagon is also there. He is one of the few to get his vessel out of the area to relative safety when a major catastrophe hits the place - only to be hit by the weapon of another craft. Suffering a major injury, he is now confined to a desk job thanks to the fact that he deviated from standard orders at the time. He happens to meet a child he hadn’t seen for many years, who is now serving there as well. The commander fights to regain a command, which will help him to help his group win the battle.

This movie was "In Harm’s Way", produced and directed by Otto preminger and starring John Wayne, Patricia Neal and Henry Fonda. The script was written by Wendell Mayes. One Academy Award ® nomination was received for Best Cinematography - Black & White.

The first movie for today is from 1958 and, based on a novel, tells of a place near the Mexican border with America and the differences that exist between two peoples. One man crosses the line from being a law-abiding husband to a vengeful madman. Another crosses the line from good cop to bad cop. When a car explodes after crossing the border, both an American cop and a Mexican narcotics agent begin their dual investigations. Almost immediately, the American has a suspect - a young Mexican who is involved with the daughter of the dead man. In order to secure a conviction, the American plants some explosives in the suspect’s home but the other cop is wise to the game. With the help of a friend of the American cop, the Mexican cop investigates the other cop’s past, while at the same time, trying to solve the murder and protect his wife from a number of dangerous locals.

The second movie for today is from 1996 and, based on earlier films and a story all of the same name, tells of a European member of the aristocracy in the 19th Century. He has revenge on his fevered brain after the ghost of his father appears to tell him of his murder at the hands of his own brother - and to demand that justice be served. The aristocrat is manic in his efforts to find out the truth and prove who committed the crime. The answers will be in Monday's edition. Good luck.
