Answer to movie number one:
The first movie for Monday was from 2002 and tells the continuing story of an actor who is currently involved in the making of a major motion picture - about him and his exploits. He is also about to receive an award for his selfless service to the empire. He hopes that this will make his father finally show some love towards him - but that isn’t to be. His father doesn’t attend the award ceremony, which triggers painful memories of his son’s lonely graduation from an academy he had earlier attended. He learns that his father has been kidnapped and taken back in time and it is up to him to rescue the man.
This movie was "Austin Powers in Goldmember", directed by Jay Roach and starring Mike Myers, Beyonce Knowles, Michael Caine and Seth Green. Two of the co-producers were Demi Moore and Mike Myers. The script was written by Michael McCullers and Mike Myers and was based on characters created by Mike Myers.
Answer to movie number two:
The second movie for Monday was from 1960 and tells of a woman who works at a telephone answering service and who gets passionately involved in the lives of her clients. She gets so involved that she starts passing on advice to them but there is one with whom she falls in love. He is a hapless playwright but there is one drawback - he only knows her as an old woman’s voice and by a different name to her real one. What would he think of her if he met her in real life is a big worry she has but, when they do meet face to face, he finds he has feelings for her, also. This movie is based on both a book and a play.
This movie was "Bells Are Ringing", directed by Vincente Minnelli and starring Judy Holliday, Dean Martin and Eddie Foy Jr. The script was written by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and was based on their play. One Academy Award ® nomination was received for Best Score (Musical), which was by Andre Previn.
The first movie for today is from 1966 and tells of a security agent who okays clearance for a top-level official who has been accused of Communist activities. When the official apparently commits suicide, the agent checks into the death and grows suspicious of the dead man’s widow. Before he can probe any deeper, he is taken off the case. Rather than bend to pressure from his superiors, he resigns and enlists the help of some fellow agents - and sets out to solve what is now clearly a murder. Complicating matters is the arrival of an agent who is a former friend of the the investigating agent - who is also preparing to run off with his friends’ wife. Though tired of the game, the agent becomes even more enmeshed than he ever envisaged.
The second movie for today is from 2003 and tells of a journalist who has been estranged from his father since his father monopolised his wedding with the umpteenth telling of a trip he once went on. When his long-suffering mother calls with the news that his father is dying, he makes the pilgrimmage home with just one goal in mind - to hear the plain, unvarnished story of his father’s life. However, his father can no more tell a straightforward story than he can send the grim reaper packing. The answers will be in Monday's edition. Good luck.
